6 Things to Celebrate Today That Have Nothing to Do With The Scale
In the world of fitness and weight loss everyone seems to be caught up in the numbers on the scale. For a lot of women stepping on the scale is very difficult, and with good reason. A scale reading can seem to make or break your day.
But should we be focusing on the scale as much? It’s seems like people are using the numbers on the scale to measure more than their weight. It seems like people are using the scale to measure their self worth.
We are so much more than a number on a scale, a weight, or a body fat percentage. You are more. So it’s time we stop the madness and celebrate our success in fitness with things that have nothing to do with the scale.
So here are 6 things that you need to go out and celebrate today that have absolutely nothing to do with the scale.
1. Getting Stronger
Do you track your weights and reps? If you don’t, start. It is a great way to see your strength increases from week to week. Getting stronger is definitely something to celebrate. Seeing strength improvements is one of the most empowering things about lifting weights.
2. Muscle Gains
Nothing beats seeing your body shape changing because of muscle gains. That is definitely something that is not visible on the scale. Progress pictures is a great way to keep track of body shape changes.
3. Ability Increases
Have you ever done an exercise and the movement feels awkward or hard? Maybe the first few times doing something new is a struggle. But after you practice it, it gets easier. You get better, and your abilities improve. This is a non-scale victory that is worth the victory lap.
4. Endurance Improvements
As a avid heavy low reps lifter, I can tell you that endurance lifting and endurance exercises are not my forte. But just like anything else, with practice things get better. Seeing your endurance improve whether it is with lifting, running, or any other sport is an amazing thing.
5. Accomplishing Goals
Setting goals and accomplishing them is a big non-scale victory. Do you want to do a race? Do it. Put it on the calendar and get it done. Do you want to do a powerlifting competition? Train hard and make it happen. The success that you feel accomplishing goals has nothing to do with the scale, and is one of the quickest ways to boost self confidence.
6. Feeling good in your skin
There is nothing quite as amazing and freeing as feeling confident and good in your own skin. Honestly, that has nothing to do with the scale at all. It has everything to do with the confidence gained in working hard on your goals and focusing on what your body can do instead of what it looks like. Remember that perfection is not a reality, and learning to love our flaws and focus on our strengths allows us to feel beautiful in the bodies we have.
