This concept is properly known as “The Principle of Specificity: The SAID Principle”. SAID= Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands… I know, quite the mouthful! Basically, this means that the body will specifically adapt to the type of demand placed on it- so if you constantly lift heavy, you will produce higher levels of maximal strength whereas another person who consistently lifts lighter weight at higher reps will produce higher levels of muscular endurance.

Summer is JUST around the corner, ladies!! Who’s excited or has big plans? I know I will be busy with celebrating holidays, traveling around to visit family, and of course multiple visits to the beach!

It is time to get our fitness and nutrition on point so that we can not only look our best in our swimsuits and summer gear, but so we can feel our best, too. The best way to go about that is good ole’ fashioned exercise and mindful eating.

Eating healthy is commonly seen as a really difficult task- something that you need to work and suffer through. Why is that? It’s not like we’re born craving candy and cakes and loads of salty chips. We’re born with our body extremely fine tuned to crave and absorb the nutrients in natural foods- carrots, peas, sweet potato- that’s why baby food is all mashed vegetables! The way we’re raised in this modern day society, dependent on fast food and instant gratification, has wreaked havoc on the way we see food.

A few months ago, I started with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become an Integrative Health Coach.  Immediately, I felt connected with this school as the first lesson introduced was about Primary Food.  When I read the heading of the unit, I figured this was going to be all about fruits and vegetables, the “primary” foods we should be eating no matter which diet we follow.  Boy was I wrong.  Primary Food as discussed with IIN is about the activities, experiences, and relationships that fill our lives.

Ahhh the Peruvian “super” seed. Why “super” you ask? Well, how about the fact that the seed is a complete protein containing all beneficial fatty acids, vitamin E, as well as fibre?! I think that’s pretty super. Personally, to me, it’s just the best peanut powder out there even though it actually isn’t peanut!
