Ingredient of the Week: Matcha Green Tea

Matcha Green Tea Superfood Powder is fairly easy to use. In Japan, matcha green tea is the centerpiece of the iconic tea ceremony, which defines the Japanese culture. Matcha green tea is a whole green tea powder, meaning it’s the complete leaf of the tea tree dried and rendered into a powder. That means that unlike a tea infusion it contains everything from the tea tree including all of the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fibre. Don’t forget the caffeine content- it offers a great energy boost for those who don’t like coffee or prefer another drink with not as high a caffeine content! It smells like green tea, and tastes like green tea because, well… that’s what it is! It can have a slightly bitter aftertaste so be sure to balance the tea powder with a natural sweetener or light citrus flavor. Other than that you can use this for many culinary ventures, such as making a simple tea or “Super Green Drink” with kale, asparagus, and lemon. You can even use it to make a matcha “nice cream” (ice cream made from frozen, blended bananas), sorbet, or ice cream! The choice is yours.
