Chrysin is compound found in the flowers of some fruits, in oyster mushrooms and in the herb chamomile which is often used to make a calming tea. Chrysin appears to work synergistically with herbs that enhance testosterone to act in a hormone balancing way by limiting the action of a key conversion enzyme. It has been reported to enhance the development of lean muscle in both athletes and older people.
Chrysin, also known as Flavone X, is structurally defined as 5,7-dihydroxyflavone. Human tissue experiments with this monoflavone demonstrated the ability to limit aromatase activity. Aromatase is an enzyme that is found in various tissues within the body and is responsible for the conversion of androstenedione and testosterone into estrogen. This conversion is utilized by the body to keep the testosterone to estrogen ratios in balance. When athletes want to increase lean body mass, maximizing serum testosterone levels is of paramount concern. European Olympic athletes report receiving benefit from using 1-3grams per day. Anecdotal reports indicate that Chrysin works best when taken in conjunction with testosterone enhancing products such as DHEA, Tribest, and TribuPlex.
